[성명서] 가자지구 분쟁을 안타까워하며 

이스라엘과 팔레스타인 간의 분쟁이 악화되고 있습니다. 평화의 왕께서 태어나신 성지의 주민들이 무력과 폭력의 희생자가 되고 있는 것은 참으로 안타까운 일입니다. 

수많은 이들을 죽음으로 내몰고 있는 이스라엘과 하마스의 상호 공격은 즉각 중단되어야 합니다. 베네딕토 16세 교황께서도 지난 1월 4일 이스라엘과 팔레스타인 간의 분쟁이 격화되고 있는 데 대해 깊은 우려를 표명하시고, “현재의 비극적 상황을 종식시킬 수 있도록 양측 지도자들이 즉각 행동에 나서야 한다.”고 호소하셨으며, “전쟁과 증오는 문제의 해결책이 될 수 없다.”고 거듭 강조하셨습니다.

국제 사회는 가자지구 전쟁 종식을 위한 모든 노력을 강구하여야 하며, 우리 정부도 국제 사회와 협력하여 즉각적인 정전 협상을 돕고, 속히 가자지구의 주민들을 위한 인도주의적 지원 방안을 마련해야 합니다. 

  우리 교회 공동체도 분쟁의 고통 중에 있는 형제들을 기억하며 서로가 증오를 극복하고 평화를 이룰 수 있도록 자비로우신 하느님께 마음을 모아 기도하고 온갖 지원에도 동참하여야 하겠습니다.

  평화의 모후이신 성모님, 저희를 위하여 빌어주소서.

With a grave concern for the conflict in Gaza Strip

The conflict between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza Strip is intensifying. It is quite regrettable that the people in the Holy Land, where the Prince of Peace was born, should be the victims of military force and violence.

The mutual attack of Israel and Hamas, causing the death of many people, should be stopped immediately. On January 4th, 2009, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI also expressed his deep concern for the people in the Holy Land, as the conflict between Israel and Palestinians was escalating, saying, "The authorities and those responsible on both sides, Israeli and Palestinian, must act immediately to put an end to this tragic situation." Then he reiterated, "War and hatred are not a solution to problems."

The international society should spare no effort to stop the conflict in Gaza Strip. We also urge our government to work together with international society in bringing out the immediate cease-fire, and providing humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza Strip.

Our ecclesiastical community should also contribute to all kinds of aids to the people in Gaza Strip, remembering the brothers and sisters in the midst of the conflict and praying to gracious God that Israel and Palestinians can live in peace with no more hatred.
